I saw this story about the “value of a father” in light of the impending paternal holiday. If you had to hire someone to do things that a father does, it would cost $X. Not surprisingly, most estimates for the “value of a mother” tend be much higher. Ahem.

Though it seems a bit unseemly, and certainly incomplete, this can be one tool or method for doing exactly what we ask juries to do everyday in wrongful death cases – figure out how much money a particular human life is worth.
